Racing Incident Report
ASALI was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (fever). Before being allowed to race again, ASALI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SEASONS KNACK was slow to begin and lost a considerable amount of ground. RICARDO began awkwardly, shifted in and was steadied away from the hindquarters of COUNTRY BOY. After the 1200 Metres, FRENCH CONNECTION, which was proving difficult to settle, shifted to the outside of the heels of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE into a three wide position. After the 1000 Metres, FRENCH CONNECTION, which at that stage settled, was shifted back in to a position behind RESOURCEFUL PRINCE. Near the 900 Metres, GREENMORE got its head up. Making the Home Turn, SEASONS KNACK was close to the heels of RICARDO. Near the 100 Metres, FRENCH CONNECTION, which was giving ground, was brushed by SEASONS KNACK which improved on its inside. At the same time, SERIOUS PLAY was crowded for room between GREENMORE and SONGS OF PRAISE which got its head on the side and shifted out away from FRENCH CONNECTION. At about the 50 Metres, RICARDO was steadied when disappointed for running between MOMENTUM and COUNTRY BOY which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, SONGS OF PRAISE raced tight between FRENCH CONNECTION and SERIOUS PLAY and as a result was not ridden out to the line. Throughout the race, ARROGANCE raced wide and without cover and rounding the Home Turn gave ground, then tailed out. ARROGANCE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ARROGANCE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ARROGANCE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ARROGANCE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. W M Lai (RESOURCEFUL PRINCE), which was racing with blinkers re-applied tonight, said he was instructed to ride the horse where it felt comfortable. He said from the outside barrier RESOURCEFUL PRINCE began well, he rode along for a short distance, was able to shift across to race outside COUNTRY BOY in the lead without having to make use of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE. He said the riding instructions were consistent with those he had been issued when previously riding the horse, however, he felt back in blinkers tonight RESOURCEFUL PRINCE showed more speed and consequently travelled further forward than it had in recent times. The explanation of W M Lai was accepted. HEALTHY WEALTHY and SEASONS KNACK were sent for sampling.
