Racing Incident Report

GREENMORE was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was bumped by STRATEGIC SELECT which was carried in by CHATER LANE which on jumping shifted in abruptly. FORTUNE LIFE was slow to begin. RESOURCEFUL PRINCE began awkwardly, shortly after the start shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of SHABU SHABU. Approaching the winning post the first time, GREEN VACATION got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of FANTASTIC STAR. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, SHABU SHABU was steadied away from the heels of CHATER LANE. MILLENNIUM SPIRIT, which was following, in turn was steadied away from the heels of SHABU SHABU. Near the 1300 Metres, SMART CHIEF got its head on the side, hung out towards the heels of FANTASTIC STAR, shifted ground and made contact with GREEN VACATION. As a consequence, SMART CHIEF lost ground. STRATEGIC SELECT, which was following, was steadied in consequence and RESOURCEFUL PRINCE, which was following STRATEGIC SELECT, was checked. Also near the 1300 Metres, CHATER LANE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREEN VACATION. Along the Back Straight, despite being ridden along, SMART CHIEF was unable to maintain its position and gave ground, then in the Straight tailed out. The performance of SMART CHIEF was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SMART CHIEF will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Making the Home Turn, GREENMORE was steadied away from the heels of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE. Passing the 200 Metres, STRATEGIC SELECT was steadied when disappointed for running between GREEN VACATION and GREENMORE. Near the 50 Metres, CHATER LANE and RESOURCEFUL PRINCE came together on two occasions, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. T Mundry (RESOURCEFUL PRINCE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse about midfield as at its most recent start it had not finished the race off when being ridden further forward. He said tonight he allowed RESOURCEFUL PRINCE to come back in the early stages in the hope of being able to obtain cover, however, after being inconvenienced making the first turn it raced further back than intended. The explanation of T Mundry was accepted. D Whyte (FORTUNE LIFE) said he intended to ride the horse around midfield with cover. He said near the winning post on the first occasion SHABU SHABU came back in front of him and as a result he steadied FORTUNE LIFE away from that runner. He said when he did this, FORTUNE LIFE shifted out, then immediately commenced to over-race. He said at the 1200 Metres when endeavouring to settle the horse, he looked down as he became aware his saddle commenced to shift forward, he therefore elected to allow FORTUNE LIFE to stride forward to avoid placing pressure on his horse's mouth and risk his saddle shifting over the wither of the horse. The explanation submitted by D Whyte was accepted. SMART CHIEF was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SMART CHIEF after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. FANTASTIC STAR, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT and COUNTRY BOY were sent for sampling.
