Racing Incident Report
MONEY STRONG began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped AMO. AMBITION and QUICK NEWS were slow into stride. Shortly after the start, AMBITION was bumped by MONEY STRONG which shifted out. Near the 1000 Metres, MONEY STRONG was awkwardly placed inside the heels of AMO which was hanging in. At the 1000 Metres, MASTER YING was steadied to avoid the heels of VICTORY MARBLE which shifted in when barely clear. G Schofield (TOWN OF FIONN) was found guilty of two charges of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The particulars of the first charge were that near the 700 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SALUT BEAUTE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running. SAINTLY PARTNERS, which was following SALUT BEAUTE, was hampered in consequence. For this breach, G Schofield was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 4 April 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong racedays). The particulars of the second charge were that near the 600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of VICTORY MARBLE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running. For this breach, G Schofield's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to expire on Sunday 4 April 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong racedays). As both breaches occurred during the one race, the penalties are to be served concurrently and the commencement of these suspensions was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Saturday 13 March 2004. After the 600 Metres, SAINTLY PARTNERS hung out. Near the 500 Metres, AMBITION was steadied and shifted to the outside of the heels of SAINTLY PARTNERS. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered whether CENDAMY had had an unfair start. Evidence was taken from C Williams, the rider of CENDAMY, and Mr D Hill, the trainer of the horse. Also the official videos of the start were viewed. It was established that just prior to the start being effected, CENDAMY lunged forward, broke open the front gates of its stall, then as the remainder of the gates opened momentarily later, CENDAMY was then sitting back in its stall and lost a significant amount of ground. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed CENDAMY had not had an unfair start and as such the horse was deemed to be a runner. TOWN OF FIONN and SALUT BEAUTE were sent for sampling.
