Racing Incident Report
FELICITY was withdrawn on 7.5.04 on veterinary grounds (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WIKI WIKI (A Marcus). GIFTED RUNNER was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (capped right front elbow). Before being permitted to race again, FELICITY and GIFTED RUNNER will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER BALL was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, KID GALAXY and GOLDEN DRAGON were crowded for room inside BULLISH KID which shifted in. In the early stages, GOLDEN DRAGON hung in. Near the 800 Metres, BIG SHOT was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLDEN DRAGON. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, SUPER BALL hung in and bumped the running rail. Shortly after straightening, WIKI WIKI was shifted to the inside of SUPER BALL to obtain clear running. For some distance near the 300 Metres, HONOURABLE, which was inclined to lay in, was awkwardly placed outside SUPER BALL and inside the heels of STAR WARRIOR which at this time was giving ground. Near the 50 Metres, WIKI WIKI shifted out. Because of this, A Marcus, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount. After the 50 Metres, D Whyte (GOLDEN DRAGON) was struck on the arm by the whip of Apprentice P H Lo (NOBLE VICTORY). In the Straight, DOUCAI hung in. Throughout the race, BULLISH KID raced wide and without cover. STAR WARRIOR and SUPER BALL were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, it was reported STAR WARRIOR had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary examination of SUPER BALL after the race did not show any significant findings. WIKI WIKI, GOLDEN DRAGON and NOBLE VICTORY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 10 May 2004)
SUPER BALL, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPER BALL was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was found to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER BALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
