Racing Incident Report

In the early stages, THUNDER MAN raced wide and without cover, then in the Straight on the first occasion was taken back to shift in and raced with cover. Near the 1800 Metres, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT got its head up. Near the 1100 Metres, CORNWALL CHIEFS, which was proving difficult to settle, was shifted to the outside of PRIZE WINNER. As a result of this, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT was momentarily carried wider. In the middle stages, PERFETTO raced wide and without cover and gave ground from the 600 Metres. Near the 900 Metres, PERFETTO was bumped by SUPER COMBED which shifted to the outside of THUNDER MAN. After the 800 Metres, CHINOOK was steadied when crowded for room by PRIZE WINNER which shifted back in after initially shifting out momentarily when close to the heels of CHERISHED which itself shifted to the outside of PACIFIC ALLIANCE. After the 700 Metres, SUPER COMBED shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of PERFETTO. Prior to the 250 Metres, Apprentice H W Lai (CHINOOK) dropped his whip. At the 250 Metres, CHINOOK was checked when crowded for room between MILLENNIUM SPIRIT which shifted in and PRIZE WINNER which shifted out after being disappointed for running inside PACIFIC ALLIANCE. No action was taken. Near the 100 Metres, CORNWALL CHIEFS was crowded for room between CHERISHED which shifted out when giving ground and GREEN IN BLUE which was racing tight inside THUNDER MAN which shifted in slightly away from TOP PRIZE. Just prior to the winning post, PRIZE WINNER was steadied when crowded for room inside MILLENNIUM SPIRIT. Because of this, PRIZE WINNER was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. At the same time, CHINOOK was steadied when disappointed for running between PRIZE WINNER and PACIFIC ALLIANCE. STRATEGIC SELECT, which finished tailed out, was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of STRATEGIC SELECT after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of STRATEGIC SELECT was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, STRATEGIC SELECT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CORNWALL CHIEFS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, CORNWALL CHIEFS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CORNWALL CHIEFS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER COMBED and TOP PRIZE were sent for sampling.
