Racing Incident Report

SOLDIER ON proved difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, SOLDIER ON will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. CHINOOK was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was crowded for room between FLYING KENNY and HIGHLAND DAWN. EXULTATION was slow to begin. From the outside gate, KING PALM was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to race closer to the rail but in a rearward position. Near the 1300 Metres, EXULTATION and KING PALM became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room inside FLYING KENNY. After the 1200 Metres, CHINOOK was steadied when crowded for room inside MAGIC TOUCH (Apprentice H W Lai) which had been racing in a three wide position and shifted in slightly. KING PALM, which was following CHINOOK, was steadied in consequence. Apprentice Lai was severely reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, FLYING KENNY was steadied away from the heels of SOLDIER ON. Also making the turn at the 1000 Metres and again near the 600 Metres, EXULTATION was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHINING GEM. Over about the last 200 Metres when being ridden out, EUPHORIC KID shifted out. W M Lai (LONGMARK) said he had been instructed to lead if possible on the horse. He said after beginning well he rode along in the early stages and when DANEFACTOR went forward with him on his inside, it soon became apparent to him that he would not be able to cross that horse and go to the lead, he therefore steadied his mount and then was obliged to race three wide without cover. He said after the 800 Metres he considered going forward, however, if he had done so he felt he would not have been able to cross the leaders, therefore he would have had to continue to race three wide. He said after the 600 Metres his mount commenced to give ground. LONGMARK was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LONGMARK after the race did not show any significant findings. CHINOOK, SHINING GEM and EUPHORIC KID were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted EUPHORIC KID had lost its left hind plate.
