Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the saddling stalls, MY CHOICE became very fractious and was unable to be saddled. MY CHOICE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse had become very distressed and in his opinion was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MY CHOICE. MAGIC HANDS, ROYAL ARMY and SURVEYOR were slow to begin. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, WINNING SUNSHINE was steadied away from the heels of DASHING CHAMPION which itself steadied after crossing to the fence. After the 200 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION hung out. Near the 100 Metres, ROYAL ARMY was steadied away from the heels of CHEEKY which was carried out by WINNING DRAGON. KIDDYLAND, which was following ROYAL ARMY, was steadied in consequence. In the Home Straight, SURVEYOR hung in. For the major part of the race, KIDDYLAND raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of NOBLE SILENCE as opposed to its first up performance, Mr D E Ferraris, the trainer of the horse, explained from the outside barrier with the rail in the C position, it was felt there was no option other than to allow NOBLE SILENCE to race in a rearward position to avoid being caught wide. He said the tempo of tonight's race clearly suited horses that were coming off the speed. He did point out at NOBLE SILENCE's only other run at Happy Valley the horse had been injured, but clearly it seemed to appreciate racing at the course tonight. NOBLE SILENCE and RED POWER were sent for sampling.
