Racing Incident Report
During the preliminary, CAPABEL proved difficult for R Fradd, its rider, to control and worked a considerable distance. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, FLYING SUCCESS was crowded for room between LUCKY CORDELIA which shifted out slightly and MILITARY OPTION which was carried in by ON SHAN EXPRESS. BARFOLD HERO was a little slow to begin, then was shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail but near the rear. KNIGHT TEMPLAR, despite being ridden along in the early stages, was slow to muster speed and consequently near the winning post on the first occasion was steadied and shifted back across behind runners to obtain a position with cover. At the 1100 Metres, CAPABEL, which was proving difficult to settle, became unbalanced inside the heels of OLIVE OR TWIST. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, LUCKY CORDELIA was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of HAPPY TOGETHER (D Dunn) which shifted in when barely clear. D Dunn was advised to exercise more care. Entering the Back Straight, CAPABEL, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, was carried wider by KNIGHT TEMPLAR which at this time shifted out. After being carried wider, CAPABEL raced without cover and was then allowed to stride forward to join the lead. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, JUSTINIAN was checked when crowded for room inside LUCKY CORDELIA which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of C Williams, its rider. FLYING SUCCESS, which was following JUSTINIAN, was checked in consequence and came into contact with EUPHORIC KID which as a result became unbalanced. In the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied C Williams had made sufficient efforts to prevent his mount shifting ground. After this, LUCKY CORDELIA continued to race with its head on the side and hung in for some distance. After the 600 Metres, BARFOLD HERO was steadied away from the heels of FLYING SUCCESS which at this time shifted in after racing tight with EUPHORIC KID. On straightening, MILITARY OPTION was steadied away from the heels of EUPHORIC KID. At the 200 Metres, FLYING KENNY, which was commencing to make ground, was steadied and shifted to the inside of BARFOLD HERO which at this time was shifting out. After the 200 Metres, EUPHORIC KID for some distance was steadied to avoid the heels of CAPABEL which was giving ground. HAPPY TOGETHER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY TOGETHER after the race did not show any significant findings. EUPHORIC KID, MILITARY OPTION and FLYING SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
