Racing Incident Report
GLOBE RIVER was withdrawn on 28.10.04 on veterinary grounds (wound to left hind cannon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PEARL OF INDIA. Before being allowed to race again, GLOBE RIVER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GLOBAL FORTUNE stood flat-footed at the start, then began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and as a result lost a considerable amount of ground. FORTUNE WARRIOR bounded in the air at the start and lost ground, then in the early stages hung in. ACCOLADE and CHOSEN ONE were slow to begin. After the 1000 Metres, TOP HEALTH got its head on the side, commenced to hang in and proved very difficult to ride. TOP HEALTH continued to hang in for a considerable distance. At the 700 Metres, GRAND MASTER, which had been inclined to hang out, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of TROPHY. Making the Home Turn, BULLISH GENERAL got its head on the side and hung out. Near the 100 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT, which was giving ground, got its head up and lost ground when momentarily crowded for room between BULLISH GENERAL and TROPHY. R Fradd (PEARL OF INDIA) explained he was aware BULLISH GENERAL had been inclined to lay out on the Home Turn when he had been following that horse. He said after the 600 Metres BULLISH GENERAL shifted away from the rail and shortly afterwards F Coetzee, its rider, shifted it back in to again be racing on the rail. He said shortly after straightening when BULLISH GENERAL again shifted away from the rail, he felt his rider would again shift it back to the rail, so he elected to shift out in the hope he would obtain clear running. He said when BULLISH GENERAL did not shift back to the rail shortly after the 400 Metres, he shifted PEARL OF INDIA to the inside of that horse in an endeavour to improve, however, PEARL OF INDIA failed to respond to his riding and kept on only one paced. GRAND MASTER, TROPHY and ALL FIT were sent for sampling.
