Racing Incident Report
SUPREME STAR was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between HONOURABLE which shifted out and SOUTH CHINA NINETY which shifted in after being bumped by WINNING PARADE. JET RISE began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, SOUTH CHINA NINETY got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of SUPREME STAR. After the 700 Metres, BEAMING RIVER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINNING PARADE. Near the 500 Metres, SUPREME STAR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOLDEN STRIDE which momentarily shifted out. For a considerable distance after this, WINNING PARADE and SUPREME STAR raced tight inside the heels of GOLDEN STRIDE and just prior to straightening SUPREME STAR was checked and WINNING PARADE steadied to avoid the heels of GOLDEN STRIDE which at this time was itself steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of LUCKY POWER. Shortly after straightening, BEAMING RIVER was steadied when disappointed for running between GOLDEN STRIDE and LUCKY POWER. Near the 250 Metres, SOUTH CHINA NINETY was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKY POWER. Just prior to the 200 Metres, HONOURABLE and WIKI WIKI came together. Over the concluding stages, GOLDEN STRIDE was crowded for room between SOUTH CHINA NINETY and SUPREME STAR. Mr J K S Ho, assistant trainer to Mr A T Millard, trainer of ONLY YOU, was questioned regarding the improved performance of that horse tonight which was having its first race start at Happy Valley. Mr Ho said ONLY YOU had been disappointing in recent times when racing over distances around 1600 Metres and was particularly disappointing when well beaten at its last start over 1650 Metres which was its first attempt on the All Weather Track. He said following that race it had been decided to freshen ONLY YOU up and drop it back in distance to 1200 Meters. He said in his opinion the horse appreciated racing over this distance when fresh and also appeared to appreciate racing on the Happy Valley surface. S Dye (WIKI WIKI) said it had been intended to ride the horse in about 4th position. He said from the outside barrier he went forward in the early stages, however, a number of runners went forward in a line and making the turn at the 1000 Metres he was wide on the track. He said because of this and carrying top weight he then steadied his mount in an attempt to shift in to a position with cover, however, HONOURABLE which was racing forward of him and to his inside was being hard ridden and did not proceed forward. He said after the 700 Metres he obtained a position with cover behind HONOURABLE despite being further back than intended. HORACE'S HORSE, ONLY YOU and ON SHAN EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
