Racing Incident Report
PORTER RICKS was withdrawn on 16.12.04 on veterinary grounds (right fore infected capped elbow) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MAGICAL LOT. TOP BRASS was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (fever). Before being allowed to race again, PORTER RICKS and TOP BRASS will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. E Saint-Martin (DRAGON AND GOLD) was fined $2,000 for negligence in that he initially weighed out for this race without a girth. SURE FORTUNE bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. CONSTELLATION began awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and was checked away from the heels of MAGICAL LOT. Shortly after the start, MAGICAL LOT was bumped and carried wider by PRESENT TREASURE which shifted out. AMERICAN VICTORY began awkwardly. VERY FIT was a little slow to begin and then was bumped by DRAGON AND GOLD which shifted out. Near the 1000 Metres, MAGICAL LOT was steadied when crowded for room between VERY FIT and CONSTELLATION which when racing greenly improved inside the heels of ZEONIC FRONTIER which was shifting in. No action was taken. Near the 900 Metres, CANNONISE was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DRAGON AND GOLD. In the middle stages, AMERICAN VICTORY raced ungenerously and proved difficult to settle. Near the 600 Metres, VERY FIT, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of YELLOW DIAMOND. On straightening, CONSTELLATION was checked to avoid the heels of ZEONIC FRONTIER which was carried out by VERY FIT which shifted out after being bumped by AMBITION which was shifting out in an endeavour to find running. Near the 300 Metres, PRESENT TREASURE, which after being ridden in a rearward position today, was commencing to close the race off, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of ZEONIC FRONTIER which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, VERY FIT hung out. Also after the 200 Metres, PRESENT TREASURE had some difficulty obtaining running between CONSTELLATION and ATHLETIC GOLD which drifted out. W Woods (ATHLETIC GOLD) said the intention had been to ride the horse in around midfield. He said ATHLETIC GOLD had been ridden in the lead at its two most recent starts and whilst not beaten by big margins was somewhat disappointing in the manner it had finished these races off. He said it was therefore felt today ATHLETIC GOLD might be better suited ridden with some cover in the hope that it would close off. He said however the horse in the Straight was again disappointing today. VERY FIT, YELLOW DIAMOND and DRAGON AND GOLD were sent for sampling.
