Racing Incident Report
SILVERBIRD was slow to begin. ACCOLADE began awkwardly and in the early stages proved difficult to settle. WIN HUNTER began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. Near the 1100 Metres, SOUND OF SILENCE was carried wide by VICTORY TREASURE which shifted out after being bumped by SMILING FOREST which shifted out. In the early stages, UNIVERSAL PIONEER raced wide and without cover. After the 600 Metres, MASTER ABLE was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of AMPLE GAINS which steadied away from PERSEVERANCE. At the 400 Metres, SOUND OF SILENCE was steadied and shifted to the inside of MASTER ABLE which was shifting out. Over the concluding stages, VICTORY TREASURE hung in, proved difficult to ride and prior to the winning post was steadied away from the heels of SILVERBIRD. S Dye (RED BARON) said he had intended to ride the horse in about 5th position. He said when the gates opened RED BARON knuckled, quickly picked itself back up and he immediately rode along to go forward. He said shortly after the start RED BARON got its head on the side and hung in badly away from AMPLE GAINS. He said as a result of this he caused crowding on his inside to SUPER SPRINT and as he endeavoured to relieve this pressure RED BARON lost ground. He said he again rode along to go forward shortly afterwards, however, at this time ACCOLADE shifted to a position in front of him and RED BARON continued to hang in and was reluctant to stride out. He said RED BARON then dropped to the rear of the field and continued to hang in in the run to the first turn. He said at no stage did RED BARON stride out as it should. He said at the 600 Metres he shifted RED BARON away from the rail to see if the horse would travel better for him. He said prior to straightening he commenced to ride RED BARON with the whip and allowed the horse to drift back towards the rail, however, it failed to respond to his riding. He said on previous occasions RED BARON had shown a reluctance to stride out in its races, however, in recent starts at Happy Valley the horse had travelled forward when racing wide without cover. Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of RED BARON, confirmed the intention was to have the horse ridden behind the lead. After viewing the film, Mr Ferraris accepted RED BARON had not begun well, then hung in badly in the early stages and consequently got much further back than he had hoped. RED BARON was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, RED BARON was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, RED BARON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WIN HUNTER, which finished tailed out, was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WIN HUNTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WIN HUNTER will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. AMPLE GAINS and FLASH HARRY were sent for sampling.
