Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN MAPLE began awkwardly and was slow to muster speed. Shortly after the start, SUPER WONGCHOY and WINNING SMILES were crowded for room between AHEAD A HEAD and WIKI WIKI, both of which shifted ground. D Holland (MAGIC TEMPLE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of NATIVE LANGUAGE, causing that horse to be carried away from its rightful running and be checked. D Holland was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 20 January 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 12 January 2005. In addition, D Holland was fined $25,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Throughout the race, TABBRIS raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. R Fradd (WINNING SMILE), which was having its first start after sustaining ligament damage, said the horse had performed only fairly in a barrier trial leading into today's race. He said on that occasion WINNING SMILE travelled forward and gave ground in the Straight. He said today WINNING SMILE travelled a little keenly in the early stages but when asked for an effort prior to straightening failed to respond to his riding. He said the manner in which WINNING SMILE was striding gave him the feel that the horse was not fully extending itself. He said after the race WINNING SMILE appeared normal in its action and returned to scale appearing not to have fully exerted itself. WINNING SMILE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNING SMILE after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING SMILE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of JOIN VICTORY, S Dye said at the horse's only other run on the surface it was fresh and raced outside the lead and on that occasion performed well. He said today JOIN VICTORY did not show the same speed and consequently raced behind other horses and as soon as it received kickback it was reluctant to stretch out. He said at no time during the race was JOIN VICTORY comfortable facing the kickback and did not stride out as it should. JOIN VICTORY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JOIN VICTORY after the race did not show any significant findings. KING OF WIN and MAGIC TEMPLE were sent for sampling.
