Racing Incident Report
A BETTER DRAGON began awkwardly, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between UNIVERSAL GLORY and FORTUNE ALL TIMES which on jumping shifted out and then was carried wider by BOXING DAY. Near the 1400 Metres, LUCKY ENCOUNTER, UNIVERSAL GLORY, FIRST KNIGHT and BOXING DAY were checked when crowded for room between TELEPRIDE (O Doleuze) which got its head up and shifted out while hanging when being ridden along and ACME OF SURPRISE (D Holland) which shifted in when not properly clear. Although the incident was one of some significance, the Stewards in the circumstances did not believe it was appropriate to hold any one rider responsible, therefore no action was taken. However, O Doleuze and D Holland were advised to exercise more care. Near the 1200 Metres, PLEDGE OF HONOR, which was racing ungenerously, got its head up, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of A BETTER DRAGON. Shortly after this, PLEDGE OF HONOR continued to hang out and was checked away from the heels of LUCKY ENCOUNTER. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BEEP BEEP hung in. Shortly after straightening, LUCKY ENCOUNTER was shifted to the outside of ACME OF SURPRISE to obtain clear running. The performance of BEEP BEEP, which weakened noticeably in the Straight, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, BEEP BEEP will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WINNING WAYS and UNIVERSAL GLORY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WINNING WAYS, which tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING WAYS will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of UNIVERSAL GLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY ENCOUNTER and TELEPRIDE were sent for sampling.
