Racing Incident Report

DARTER was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, DARTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After entering the track, HERO OF ABALONE became fractious, causing E Saint-Martin, its rider, to dismount. E Saint-Martin remounted the horse which was then led to the Start by a stable assistant on the instruction of Mr C H Yip, trainer of the horse. Mr Yip was fined $5,000 for having his horse led to the Start by other than an official of the Club without first seeking permission of the Stewards [Rule 32(2)]. Whilst parading behind the barrier, DR HAENSLER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. On jumping, TOP BRASS and SHINING DAY, which both began awkwardly, bumped. As a result of this, TOP BRASS lost ground. In the early stages, DR HAENSLER proved difficult to settle. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, SHINING DAY got its head on the side, hung out and lost ground, then in the early part of the Straight got its head on the side and hung in. For some distance after straightening, DR HAENSLER was held up and unable to improve inside CLASSIC HORSE and behind GOLD MEDAL WINNER. Near the 300 Metres, TOP BRASS was steadied and shifted to the outside of GLORY YEARS into clear running. Also near the 300 Metres, DR HAENSLER was shifted towards the inside of GOLD MEDAL WINNER in an attempt to improve into a narrow run that existed between that horse and ABLE MARS, however, shortly afterwards GOLD MEDAL WINNER commenced to shift in. DR HAENSLER was then near the 200 Metres steadied and shifted to the outside of GOLD MEDAL WINNER. Over the concluding stages, TOP BRASS when tiring got its head up and commenced to hang in. M Rodd (ZEONIC FRONTIER) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a handy position. He said when the gates opened ZEONIC FRONTIER bounded in the air and whilst not losing a significant amount of ground then took time to muster speed. He said as a result of this he immediately shifted across behind runners and rode along to improve his position behind DR HAENSLER and GLORY YEARS. He said ZEONIC FRONTIER then travelled only fairly in the run and in the Straight whilst making ground did not close off strongly. ZEONIC FRONTIER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ZEONIC FRONTIER after the race did not show any significant findings. GLORY YEARS, GOLD MEDAL WINNER and ABLE MARS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported BRING US LUCK had sustained a laceration to the mouth.
