Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, LUCKY WINNER became fractious. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY WINNER will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. SOLAR and LUCKY GALLOPER were slow to begin. FOURSQUARE got its head up on jumping, then raced wide and without cover and proved difficult to settle. Near the 300 Metres, GREAT LEADER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SOLAR. When questioned regarding the apparent inconsistent performances of SOLAR since the horse had joined his stable, Mr A Lee, the trainer of the horse, said when the horse first moved to his stable he gave it a freshen up in an endeavour to improve the horse's attitude. He said also in the initial stages SOLAR had some general stiffness and soreness and appeared light in condition. He said since joining his stable the work pattern of SOLAR has been consistent in that he does not do too much work with the horse in the morning. He said when the horse was successful at its first start for his stable on 23 January 2005 he was somewhat confident that the horse would run well as it had shown improvement during its time with him. He said at the next race start when it finished 12th, he had again been somewhat confident, however, immediately after the race G Schofield who rode the horse on that occasion said to him that the horse appeared reluctant to stride out after receiving a significant bump at the start which he accepted. He said G Schofield had also suggested that he increased the distance of SOLAR's races from the 1400 Metres it contested that day. Mr Lee said for tonight's race when SOLAR was entered he immediately contacted S Dye to ride the horse as he believed his riding style would suit SOLAR which gets back in its races. He said he did not seek G Schofield for the ride despite being satisfied with his riding of the horse last start. He said SOLAR had continued to please him since its last start for which he believed there were excuses and as such the horse was strongly fancied by the stable tonight in a race which in his opinion was of a lesser quality than at its last start. Mr Lee was reminded of the responsibility he has under the rules to ensure horses trained by him perform consistently where possible. B Prebble (NORTHERN ROSE) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly and as a result settle the horse well back in the field. He said after the 600 Metres he was following FOURSQUARE and GREAT LEADER was racing to his inside. He said NORTHERN ROSE was inclined to lay out and he considered as the horse was first up from a spell tonight to have gone around the field at that stage of the race would have been detrimental to the horse's chances. He said he therefore elected to remain behind FOURSQUARE into the Straight, then shifted towards the inside of runners in an attempt to have a horse race on the outside of NORTHERN ROSE to prevent it from wanting to lay out. He said shortly after straightening he placed NORTHERN ROSE under pressure, the horse continued to hang while closing the race off, then near the 200 Metres became badly unbalanced when bumped by NIGHT NINJA which shifted in away from GOODWOOD which also shifted in at this time. He said after this while NORTHERN NOSE continued to make ground, in his opinion the horse's run ended short of the line. When NORTHERN ROSE was bumped near the 200 Metres, it shifted in and bumped FANTASTIC STAR. NORTHERN ROSE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NORTHERN ROSE after the race did not show any significant findings. PICTURE PERFECT, SOLAR and LUCKY GALLOPER were sent for sampling.
