Racing Incident Report
SUPER BROSE was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of EVERY TIME which shifted in. For the major part of the race, OUR JET hung in and proved difficult to ride, over the concluding stages hung in badly and near the 700 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BILLET EXPRESS which was steadied in front of it. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, OUR JET was bumped by EVERY TIME which shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of TIGER RIDGE. Prior to straightening, EXPECTATIONS became unbalanced after bumping the running rail. Near the 250 Metres, EVERY TIME was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside TIGER RIDGE. Near the 200 Metres, EXPECTATIONS, which was closing the race off, was steadied away from the heels of EVERY TIME. For the major part of the race, FLASHING STAR raced wide and without cover. G Schofield (BILLET EXPRESS) said he had been instructed to lead if possible. He said BILLET EXPRESS began on equal terms with ALWAYS WELCOME which had drawn to his inside. He said he then rode BILLET EXPRESS along, however, ALWAYS WELCOME was hard ridden to go forward on his inside. He said ALWAYS WELCOME continued to go forward and he hoped that horse might cross to the rail and enable him to shift to a one wide position towards its outside, however, TIGER RIDGE held the rail which meant ALWAYS WELCOME remained racing one off, as a consequence BILLET EXPRESS was racing three wide. He said the manner in which ALWAYS WELCOME was hard ridden to maintain the lead and having in mind the strong pace of the race in the early stages in his opinion would have required him to make too much use of BILLET EXPRESS to carry out his instructions which would have been detrimental to the horse's chances. BILLET EXPRESS, TIGER RIDGE and OUR JET were sent for sampling.
