Racing Incident Report

On jumping, PEACH BLOSSOM lost ground when crowded for room between COMPASSIONATE and ABLE MARS, both of which shifted ground. FLYING KENNY and AMBITIOUS LEADER were slow to begin. From the outside gate, MALAYAN TREASURE was immediately shifted across behind runners. Near the 1200 Metres, DON FELIPE was checked when crowded for room between CONSTELLATION which shifted out slightly after making contact with AMBITIOUS LEADER and COMPASSIONATE which was carried in by ABLE MARS (O Chavez) which at this time shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Despite the incident being one of some significance, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate to charge any rider, however, O Chavez was reprimanded and told to exercise more care. PEACH BLOSSOM made the turn near the 800 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of CHOSEN ONE. Shortly after this, PEACH BLOSSOM was again steadied away from the heels of DON FELIPE. Near the 600 Metres, ZEONIC FRONTIER was bumped by SUPER SPRINT which shifted in. Making the Home Turn, DARTER got its head up when inclined to lay out. At the 400 Metres, CHOSEN ONE was bumped by COMPASSIONATE which shifted out. For a considerable distance after straightening, DON FELIPE was held up and unable to obtain clear running, near the 300 Metres was checked when disappointed for running between ZEONIC FRONTIER and AMBITIOUS LEADER, then continued to be held up for running until after the 200 Metres. Also for a considerable distance after straightening, CONSTELLATION was held up and unable to improve between SUPER SPRINT and ZEONIC FRONTIER, then near the 300 Metres was checked when disappointed for running between these horses, both of which shifted ground. Near the 200 Metres, ZEONIC FRONTIER, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when being taken away from the heels of AMBITIOUS LEADER, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of SUPER SPRINT which at this time shifted in. No action was taken. Near the 100 Metres, ABLE MARS, AMBITIOUS LEADER, SUPER SPRINT and QUICK NEWS were crowded for room between FLYING KENNY which at this time shifted to the outside of MR GENKI and COMPASSIONATE which at this time drifted in away from CHOSEN ONE which itself shifted ground. After the 100 Metres, ABLE MARS, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between AMBITIOUS LEADER and DON FELIPE, both of which shifted ground. Throughout the race, SUPER SPRINT and DARTER raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the performance of ZEONIC FRONTIER, M Rodd was unable to offer any explanation. He said ZEONIC FRONTIER had worked well leading into today's race and he thought it would figure in the finish. He said ZEONIC FRONTIER raced without cover today and on straightening failed to respond to his riding. ZEONIC FRONTIER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ZEONIC FRONTIER after the race did not show any significant findings. FLYING KENNY and MR GENKI were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DARTER was making an abnormal breathing noise. The Veterinary Officer said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be an early "roarer".
