Racing Incident Report
PREMIER CRU was withdrawn on 11.6.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WONDERFUL BOY (R Fradd). Before being allowed to race again, PREMIER CRU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY PACKET, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. Shortly after the start, WONDERFUL BOY and SHINING LIGHT were checked when crowded for room between THE FACULTY which on jumping got its head on the side and shifted in and JUST VICTORY which began awkwardly, got its head up and shifted out. MAGNIFICENT was slow to begin. SUCCESS TREND began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1000 Metres, GREAT STAR commenced to over-race after being bumped by GOOD TO GREAT. For some distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, MAGNIFICENT had difficulty obtaining clear running behind JET RISE and inside the heels of GREAT STAR. To obtain clear running near the 200 Metres, MAGNIFICENT was shifted to the outside of JET RISE. Near the 200 Metres, O Doleuze (GREAT STAR) dropped his whip. After the 200 Metres, LUCKY PACKET was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREAT STAR which was giving ground, then over the concluding stages shifted wider on the track. Over the concluding stages, THE FACULTY hung in and proved difficult to ride out. Throughout the race, THE FACULTY raced wide and without cover and was inclined to lay in. Also throughout the race, WONDERFUL BOY travelled wide and without cover, in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. WONDERFUL BOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WONDERFUL BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of WONDERFUL BOY, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WONDERFUL BOY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (QI'S PET) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in 5th or 6th position if possible. He said QI'S PET began well and he went forward in the hope of being able to find a position with cover as instructed, however, it soon became apparent to him that he would be obliged to race wide and without cover, he therefore after the 1200 Metres rode along to clear runners on his inside and crossed to the lead as he felt this was in the horse's best interests bearing in mind in recent times the tracks had been favouring front runners. G Mossé (GOOD TO GREAT) explained the intention had been to ride the horse with cover if possible. He said GOOD TO GREAT proved very difficult to settle in the early stages and near the 1000 Metres he steadied to allow ABORIGINAL to shift in and provide him with cover. He said after this GOOD TO GREAT continued to prove difficult to settle and made the first turn awkwardly. He said because of the manner in which GOOD TO GREAT travelled in the early stages of the race the horse was unable to finish the race off, hung in in the Straight and was disappointing. GOOD TO GREAT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of GOOD TO GREAT after the race did not show any significant findings. QI'S PET and ABORIGINAL were sent for sampling.
