Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, it was noted SAMBUOYANT had lost its right front plate. SAMBUOYANT was re-plated and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. When the gates opened, TAKING THE LEAD bounded in the air and was slow to begin. SAMBUOYANT was slow to begin. FAIR WIN began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped VICTORY TREASURE. At the 1000 Metres, FORTUNE PRINCESS was checked when crowded for room inside EAST OCEAN DRAGON which got its head on the side and shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DANHERO. In the circumstances, no action was taken. In the early stages, CHATER ROYALE proved difficult to settle. Before the 800 Metres, SAMBUOYANT was steadied when crowded for room between TAKING THE LEAD and CHATER ROYALE. At the 700 Metres, CHATER ROYALE became unbalanced when crowded for room between SOUNDS BEST and SAMBUOYANT which got its head on the side and shifted out after being ridden along to make up ground. No action was taken. For the major part of the race, SOUNDS BEST raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CROWNED GEM, O Doleuze was unable to offer any explanation. He said the horse was a little keen early and then raced three wide in a forward position without cover. He said even having in mind the wide run endured by CROWNED GEM, he still felt the horse was disappointing in that it did not respond when placed under pressure in the Straight. He said CROWNED GEM felt sound in its action. CROWNED GEM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CROWNED GEM after the race did not show any significant findings. FORTUNE PRINCESS and DANHERO were sent for sampling.
