Racing Incident Report
JUSTINIAN began awkwardly, bounded in the air and was then checked when crowded for room between GOOD VIEW SUCCESS which shifted out abruptly and RAINBOW EXPRESS which was carried in by TIMBER CITY. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, STRIKE TO WIN was carried wider by TELECOM SUPERBOSS which at this time shifted to the outside of TIMBER CITY. After this, STRIKE TO WIN continued to race wide and without cover throughout. Making the Home Turn, AMERICAN VICTORY hung out and shifted wider on the track, causing BRIGHT AND GAY which was racing to its outside to be carried wider. On straightening, RAINBOW EXPRESS, which had been shifted out in an endeavour to improve on the outside of KOWLOON FIT and inside GOOD NATURE, was steadied when having difficulty obtaining clear running between those horses. In the Straight, AMERICAN VICTORY hung out and shifted ground towards NATIVE LANGUAGE. Over the concluding stages, AMERICAN VICTORY, which was continuing to hang out, raced tight inside NATIVE LANGUAGE which drifted in. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (QUICK NEWS) said he was concerned with the horse's action during its preliminary and he therefore requested the Veterinary Surgeon positioned at the barriers to examine the horse after arriving at the Start. He said he trotted QUICK NEWS up and after being consulted by the Veterinary Surgeon said he was satisfied to ride the horse. This was confirmed by the Veterinary Surgeon positioned at the Start. E Saint-Martin said QUICK NEWS did not begin as well as he would have liked, momentarily made contact with TELECOM SUPERBOSS which was drawn to his inside, then shifted out and as a result was steadied away from the heels of NATIVE LANGUAGE. He said as a consequence QUICK NEWS got further back in the run than he intended. He said he applied some pressure to QUICK NEWS in the early stages of the race in an attempt to improve his position, however, the horse did not appear to be striding out freely underneath him. He said therefore after the 1200 Metres he stopped applying pressure to QUICK NEWS in an attempt to have the horse travel comfortably albeit in a rearward position. He said on straightening he commenced to ride QUICK NEWS along hands and heels. He said QUICK NEWS gave a gradual response and near the 200 Metres he momentarily steadied and shifted out away from the heels of STRIKE TO WIN which was giving ground. He said after this he commenced to ride QUICK NEWS with the whip and the horse closed the race off fairly. He did point out after the race QUICK NEWS appeared to be restricted in its action. QUICK NEWS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. Following the race, QUICK NEWS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. E Saint-Martin was told his explanation would be reported. GOOD NATURE and AMERICAN VICTORY were sent for sampling.
