Racing Incident Report
ENGINEERING WONDER, KINGIFLY and RICH DRAGON were slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden back from a wide gate, GREAT DELIGHT was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. On straightening, GOLDEN CARE, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when bumped by DOWN TOWN which at this stage improved on its inside. Over the concluding stages, ALINSKY hung out. For the major part of the race, GOLDEN CARE raced wide and without cover. E Saint-Martin (GENERAL KINGY) said he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said having in mind GENERAL KINGY was tonight racing over 1200 Metres when its best form has been shown to be over 1000 Metres and the fact the horse had been drawn in the middle of the field, he decided after beginning best not to ride GENERAL KINGY along but to allow it to come back and obtain a position with cover. He said making the first turn he travelled four wide outside GOLDEN CARE, but after the 800 Metres shifted to a position behind that horse. He said GENERAL KINGY travelled comfortably in this position which was about midfield, however, in the Straight did not respond to his riding and gave ground. Mr K W Lui, trainer of GENERAL KINGY, said prior to the race he discussed the manner in which the horse should be ridden with E Saint-Martin. He said as it was felt tonight's race would be run at a strong tempo, it was decided to ride the horse with cover if possible. Mr Lui said he was satisfied with the manner in which GENERAL KINGY had been ridden. GOLDEN CARE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GOLDEN CARE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN CARE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALINSKY, ENGINEERING WONDER and NOBLE CRUSADER were sent for sampling.
