Racing Incident Report
NICKU NICKU was withdrawn on 20.2.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter AURELIAN. RAINBOW DIAMOND was withdrawn on 21.2.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter EUPHORIC KID (Apprentice C W Wong). Before being allowed to race again, NICKU NICKU and RAINBOW DIAMOND will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOIN VICTORY began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and as a consequence lost ground. EUPHORIC KID was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, AURELIAN was taken across behind runners. ONE SHOT was slow to muster speed in the early stages. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, JOIN VICTORY was awkwardly placed inside EUPHORIC KID which itself was racing tight inside ONE SHOT. After the 700 Metres, ONE SHOT was shifted out and commenced to improve around DANRIVA. Over the final 200 Metres, WATCHMAN hung out. C Soumillon (IRISH GEM) explained after reaching the lead making the first turn, the horse proved difficult for him to settle. He said because of this IRISH GEM was difficult for him to control and continually shifted away from the running rail He said IRISH GEM continued to race ungenerously throughout and when GLORIOUS RHYTHM improved around his outside prior to straightening, IRISH GEM hung in, then in the early part of the Straight again hung in. He added when riding IRISH GEM out near the 200 Metres, the horse shifted out abruptly and because of this he stopped riding. He said the poor performance of IRISH GEM was attributable to the manner in which the horse travelled throughout the race. IRISH GEM and WATCHMAN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, IRISH GEM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, IRISH GEM will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of WATCHMAN after the race did not show any significant findings. PRESENT TREASURE and SPOKESMAN were sent for sampling.
