Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, SNIPER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PACIFIC ALLIANCE, which was restless in the stalls, bounded in the air at the start, lost ground and was taken across behind runners. ESPOIR D'OR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FIGHT BACK. SNIPER began awkwardly. On jumping, BEST CHOICE made contact with the hindquarters of CYPRESS HILL. Making the first turn, ESPOIR D'OR was steadied away from the heels of SPECTACULAR HIT which itself was steadied to avoid the heels of SNIPER which shifted in when awkwardly placed on the heels of FIGHT BACK which at this time was being steadied to take up a position behind BARRACUDA. Near the 1400 Metres, BEST CHOICE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of TELECOM TYCOON. After entering the Back Straight, ESPOIR D'OR proved difficult to settle. In the early part of the Straight, TELECOM TYCOON hung in. Because of this, G Schofield changed the whip into his right hand at the 250 Metres. FIGHT BACK, which finished tailed out, was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FIGHT BACK was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was found to be distressed and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the trachea. The performance of FIGHT BACK was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FIGHT BACK will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BARRACUDA and TELECOM TYCOON were sent for sampling.
