Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN FARM was withdrawn on 9.5.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUNNY DESERT (S Dye). Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN FARM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Y T Cheng (VITAL SPARK) was fined $2,000 for initially weighing out with two surcingles which required him to re-weigh prior to the horse being saddled. MASTER ABLE began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was checked to avoid the heels of WISDOM EXPRESS which shifted in slightly. Shortly after this, WISDOM EXPRESS and DANEMAN HILL bumped. BAJAN BELL was slow to begin. On jumping, SUNNY DESERT lost ground after being bumped by SMARTY FACE which shifted in. W C Marwing (GANBARIA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FLYING DAGGER causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. W C Marwing was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 22 May 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Singapore racemeeting next Sunday 14 May 2006. In addition, W C Marwing was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. After the 1000 Metres, DANEMAN HILL was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WISDOM EXPRESS. For the major part of the race, SMARTY FACE travelled wide and without cover and after the 800 Metres got its head up and became unbalanced. On straightening, HAPPY ASH was steadied away from the heels of SUNNY DESERT which commenced to shift out to obtain clear running. At the 250 Metres, when improving between WISDOM EXPRESS and SMARTY FACE, DANEMAN HILL bumped SMARTY FACE. Also at the 250 Metres, BAJAN BELL became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of SUNNY DESERT. S Dye was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After the 200 Metres, Apprentice K L Chui (WISDOM EXPRESS) had the whip knocked from his hand by the whip of B Prebble (DANEMAN HILL). When questioned regarding the improved performance of SUNNY DESERT, Trainer T W Leung said the horse, which tonight was having a seven day back up off an injury enforced lay-off, last week when racing over 1650 Metres SUNNY DESERT raced competitively until after the 600 Metres. He said on that occasion the condition of SUNNY DESERT gave out and as such the horse did not close the race off. He said tonight coming back in distance to 1200 Metres, with the benefit of one prior run this preparation the horse was able to close the race off strongly. He said the win tonight had surprised him somewhat as he had at best believed the horse to be an outside chance. Y T Cheng said throughout the race VITAL SPARK travelled greenly. He said despite drawing barrier 1 he shifted away from the rail and in the Straight whilst it did make ground it continued to be green in its action and indicated to him it would be better suited over races of a distance further than 1200 Metres. After the race, F Coetzee reported FLYING DAGGER had been making an abnormal breathing noise during the run and on a number of occasions was unbalanced. FLYING DAGGER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. Following the race, FLYING DAGGER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a displacement of the soft palate. The performance of FLYING DAGGER was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, FLYING DAGGER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUNNY DESERT and GANBARIA were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported BAJAN BELL was bleeding from the mouth.
