Racing Incident Report
H K Yim (TATTENHALL DELIGHT) explained his mount had been fractious in the gates, as the gates opened while its head was being straightened by an attendant, the bit momentarily became displaced in the horse's mouth. He said TATTENHALL DELIGHT was then slow to begin. NOBLE CONQUEROR and PROFIT HILL were slow to begin. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, TATTENHALL DELIGHT was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of NOBLE CONQUEROR which itself was awkwardly placed inside SUPERB. After entering the Back Straight, PROFIT HILL proved very difficult to settle and near the 700 Metres got its head up when being checked to avoid the heels of SPY KING. Passing the 700 Metres, KINGSTON WINNER was crowded for room inside HEALTHY FRUITS which at this time was carried in by FUNTRAP (G Schofield). After this near the 600 Metres, KINGSTON WINNER was checked when crowded for room inside HEALTHY FRUITS which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FUNTRAP. At the same time, DRAGON AND GOLD shifted out slightly. In the circumstances, G Schofield was reprimanded for causing the initial crowding. At the 500 Metres, GOOD TO GREAT was carried wider by KINGSTON WINNER which shifted to the outside of HEALTHY FRUITS. Apprentice K T Yeung (WISDOM EXPRESS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that on straightening he shifted his mount out when not clear of HEALTHY FRUITS and KINGSTON WINNER, causing both horses to be severely hampered. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Yeung's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 29 June 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 10 June 2006. At the 100 Metres, FUNTRAP shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of DRAGON AND GOLD. Over the concluding stages, NOBLE CONQUEROR hung in. When questioned, C Munce (SUPERB) said he had been instructed if the horse showed good gate speed as it did at its last start which was its first race since transferring stables, he should go forward, however, if SUPERB did not show the same gate speed, he should ensure the horse travelled where it was comfortable. He said SUPERB did not begin cleanly, FUNTRAP which had drawn to his inside along with a number of other runners were immediately ridden along to go forward, he therefore shifted across behind runners to avoid being caught wide. He said the initial stages of the race was run at a much faster pace tonight than when SUPERB travelled in a forward position at its last start. He said as a consequence SUPERB raced behind midfield. He said SUPERB travelled comfortably, he improved his position slightly after the 700 Metres, however, SUPERB failed to run on in the Home Straight and was most disappointing. The explanation of C Munce was recorded. HEALTHY FRUITS and SUPERB were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HEALTHY FRUITS and SUPERB after the race did not show any significant findings. NOBLE CONQUEROR and GOLDEN STRIDE were sent for sampling.
