Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, D Dunn was declared as the rider of both FAST TRACK and PRIME MOVER. It was established that D Dunn had a firm commitment to ride FAST TRACK. As such, the Stewards permitted G Schofield to be substituted as the rider of PRIME MOVER. For this declaration error, D Dunn was fined $2,000. HANDBAG PREMIER began awkwardly, lost ground, then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of GREAT IDEA which on jumping stumbled and shifted in. CARELESS WHISPER began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. On jumping, CAGA BOY, which had bumped the inside gate of its stall, was then bumped by SABRE AND GOLD which on jumping shifted out. Near the 1000 Metres, CARELESS WHISPER, which was racing ungenerously, got its head up when being steadied after shifting in abruptly. CARELESS WHISPER continued to race ungenerously and made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly. At the 800 Metres, PRIME MOVER was steadied away from the heels of FAST TRACK. Also at the 800 Metres, FAST TRACK, which was making the turn a little awkwardly, was checked to avoid the heels of LIBERAL'S RIDE (D Whyte) which shifted in. As the Stewards were satisfied D Whyte attempted to straighten his mount, he was in the circumstances severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to initially shift in. D Whyte was also severely reprimanded for having left the course prior to this inquiry being concluded. Near the 700 Metres, PRIME MOVER was awkwardly placed between SUGAR AND SON and CAGA BOY. In the middle stages, FORTE hung out. Throughout the race, SABRE AND GOLD travelled wide and without cover and in the middle stages hung out. At the 100 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was steadied away from the heels of LIBERAL'S RIDE which at this time was carried out by PRIME MOVER which shifted out to obtain clear running. In the Straight when giving ground, FASTER FASTER hung in. Also in the Straight, CARELESS WHISPER hung in. The performances of CARELESS WHISPER and SABRE AND GOLD, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CARELESS WHISPER and SABRE AND GOLD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CAGA BOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, CAGA BOY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, CAGA BOY will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FORTE and GREAT IDEA were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported LIBERAL'S RIDE had lost its left hind plate and FAST TRACK had sustained a laceration to the right front leg.
