Racing Incident Report
Prior to the riders weighing out for this race, W C Marwing was again examined by the Club's doctor who said in his opinion Jockey Marwing had not sufficiently recovered to fulfil his engagement on PROFIT HILL. As such, the Stewards permitted H K Yim to be substituted as the rider of PROFIT HILL. After being boxed, NOBLE CONQUEROR became fractious and reared, then on jumping began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. From a wide gate, PROFIT HILL was taken across behind runners at the start. SMARTY FACE began awkwardly, shortly after the start shifted in and bumped PROFIT HILL. On jumping, WINDICATOR and HAPPY SUNDAY bumped. At the 800 Metres, NOBLE CONQUEROR was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SMARTY FACE. At the 700 Metres, WISDOM EXPRESS was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MASTER YING and outside WONDERFUL BOY. At the 600 Metres, WINDICATOR and WONDERFUL BOY which were racing tight bumped on several occasions. ACTIVE VALOUR, which was following, was steadied in consequence. At the 400 Metres, NOBLE CONQUEROR and ACTIVE VALOUR bumped. For some distance after the 400 Metres, WONDERFUL BOY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MASTER YING. After the 300 Metres, DR POSSI had difficulty obtaining clear running between NEW TRIUMPH and HAPPY SUNDAY. After the 200 Metres, MASTER YING was hampered and carried in by WISDOM EXPRESS (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted ground. WONDERFUL BOY, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of MASTER YING. Apprentice Chui was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. After the 100 Metres, ACTIVE VALOUR was momentarily inconvenienced outside WISDOM EXPRESS which at this time shifted out. B Prebble (NOBLE CONQUEROR) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said after losing ground at the start from the inside barrier, he shifted NOBLE CONQUEROR wider on the track in an attempt to allow it to improve its position gradually. He said however he did not ride along to do so. He said as a consequence NOBLE CONQUEROR travelled back in the field as it did at its last start. He said today NOBLE CONQUEROR made ground in the early part of the Straight, however, over the concluding stages failed to finish the race off and in his opinion raced like a tired horse. He said with the blinkers removed from NOBLE CONQUEROR today, the horse was far more relaxed in the preliminary and in the parade and in his opinion the performance was not attributable to the removal of that gear. E Saint-Martin (HAPPY SUNDAY), which performed poorly, explained he travelled forward as instructed. He said when NEW TRIUMPH maintained its position on his inside, he elected to continue racing outside that horse as in his opinion he would have had to make too much use of HAPPY SUNDAY to cross to the fence in the lead. He said when racing in this position HAPPY SUNDAY did not relax for him and as a consequence in the Straight failed to close the race off. MY PRIDE and HAPPY SUNDAY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MY PRIDE and HAPPY SUNDAY after the race did not show any significant findings. NOBLE CONQUEROR, WISDOM EXPRESS and MASTER YING were sent for sampling.
