Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, SUPER BALL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He noted the horse had shifted its right front plate and had sustained a nail puncture wound to the sole of the foot. Because of this, SUPER BALL was lame in that leg and in his opinion was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SUPER BALL. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER BALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, BENEFICIAL stood flat-footed, then began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. The performance of BENEFICIAL was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BENEFICIAL will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, VICTORY CODE was severely checked when crowded for room between RELY ON ME and MACAROON which when being steadied away from the heels of BEAR MACHO got its head up and shifted out. In the circumstances, no action was taken. BEAR MACHO made the turn near the 800 Metres awkwardly. At the 600 Metres, SMART HORSE was steadied away from the heels of MACAROON. D Whyte (RELY ON ME) said in the past the horse had shown a reluctance to race inside and behind runners. He said because of this usually RELY ON ME is ridden in front or on the outside of runners. He said today it was felt RELY ON ME would not have sufficient speed to lead, therefore he was asked to ensure the horse had clear running throughout. He did say at the 800 Metres when racing wide and without cover, his mount was inconvenienced after being bumped on the hindquarters, however, at no stage was there an opportunity for him to follow his riding instructions and to avoid racing wide and without cover. VICTORY CODE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VICTORY CODE after the race did not show any significant findings. BEAR MACHO, KING ENCOSTA and OCEAN TRANQUIL were sent for sampling.
