Racing Incident Report
JOY AND TREASURE began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. Shortly after the start, SMARTY lost ground when being steadied as a result of crowding between STEP FORWARD and NEW TAMAR which shifted in. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SMARTY was steadied away from the heels of A BETTER DRAGON when racing tight inside NEW TAMAR which itself was steadied to allow JOY AND TREASURE to shift in. After the 600 Metres, STEP FORWARD was momentarily crowded for room inside DRAGON INN which was racing tight inside the hindquarters of DANRIVA. After the 200 Metres, TOUCH DOWN, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between A BETTER DRAGON and NEW TAMAR. For the major part of the race, DANRIVA travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice H W Lai (SMARTY) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position. He said despite being interfered with in the early stages SMARTY felt reluctant to stride out and as a consequence got much further back than anticipated. He said in the Straight SMARTY failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing, however, he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. SMARTY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. TOUCH DOWN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SMARTY and TOUCH DOWN after the race did not show any significant findings. PURPLE GOLD and STEP FORWARD were sent for sampling.
