Racing Incident Report

NAMJONG MONEY began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. QI'S PET was slow to begin. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, NAMJONG MONEY got its head on the side, shifted in away from TRIUMPH and bumped the running rail. After the race, Apprentice H W Lai (NAMJONG MONEY) explained when the horse hit the rail he sustained an injury to his foot which placed him at a significant disadvantage in riding his mount out for the remainder of the race. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, MASTER DREAMER failed to muster speed and got well back. With the intention of being ridden back from the outside barrier, TRIUMPH was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages. For some distance in the Back Straight, HONEST TREASURE (Apprentice K L Chui) was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BUDDIES POWER (Apprentice K T Yeung). Apprentice Chui was told in similar circumstances he should not persevere trying to maintain his position. Apprentice Yeung was also told to ensure he was properly clear of runners before shifting in. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, LIAOBUQI, which was initially steadied away from the heels of HONEST TREASURE, then became unbalanced when crowded for room inside QI'S PET which was racing tight inside PRIMIATA. In this incident, QI'S PET also became unbalanced. In the circumstances, no action was taken. NICKU NICKU, which was following, was steadied in consequence. For some distance making the Home Turn, NICKU NICKU was checked away from the heels of QI'S PET, then in the early part of the Straight was held up and unable to improve and after the 300 Metres was checked and shifted out to find clear running. In the early part of the Straight, PRIMIATA got its head on the side and hung in away from TRIUMPH. When questioned regarding the improved performance of BUDDIES POWER, Trainer A T Millard said the horse raced last Sunday and did not show its customary speed. He said the circumstances of that race did not suit BUDDIES POWER. He added previously BUDDIES POWER had performed well on a quick back up. NAMJONG MONEY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NAMJONG MONEY after the race did not show any significant findings. HONEST TREASURE, BUDDIES POWER and TRIUMPH were sent for sampling.
