Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, DASHING WINNER bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground. From a wide barrier, PERFECT TIME, which was ridden along to go forward, was obliged to race wide and without cover. SANBENITO, which was slow to begin, was then checked when crowded for room between OCEAN TRANQUIL and LIFELINE RAPIDE. At the 900 Metres, OCEAN TRANQUIL and ALWAYS GIGGLE bumped when ALWAYS GIGGLE shifted in as a result of being awkwardly placed close to the heels of PICTURE PERFECT which shifted in when not properly clear. At the 700 Metres, OCEAN TRANQUIL was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of ALWAYS GIGGLE. Over the final 700 Metres, DASHING WINNER hung out. M Odendaal (SANBENITO) reported just prior to the line he felt the horse became unbalanced behind, therefore he did not ride it out to the winning post. O Doleuze (WELL NOTED) said after beginning well runners on his inside continued forward. He said he noticed at the 1200 Metres PERFECT TIME which was on his inside was being hard ridden, he therefore elected to steady his mount, come back and obtain a position behind that horse to avoid racing wide and without cover. B Prebble (ALWAYS GIGGLE), which was having its first start over 1400 Metres today, said he rode the horse more prominently as he believed over the longer distance of today's race the tempo would not be as strong. He said when crowded for room near the 900 Metres, ALWAYS GIGGLE commenced to race keenly and therefore did not relax for him. He said the horse did not quicken in the early part of the Straight, however, was able to maintain its position until near the 100 Metres where after it gave ground. He did say in hindsight ALWAYS GIGGLE might have been better ridden slightly further back, however, he was concerned this would have him in an awkward position. OCEAN TRANQUIL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. ALWAYS GIGGLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of OCEAN TRANQUIL and ALWAYS GIGGLE after the race did not show any significant findings. LIFELINE RAPIDE and FLYING TAMARI were sent for sampling.
