Racing Incident Report
STRAIGHT VICTORY was slow to begin. CHINOOK began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TRIUMPH. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TREASURE RAIDERS, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of TRIUMPH. At the 1100 Metres, when being steadied away from the heels of TRIUMPH, TREASURE RAIDERS got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly, causing crowding to TOY QUEST. TREASURE RAIDERS was checked to relieve the pressure it was applying to TOY QUEST. Shortly after entering the Straight, TOY QUEST was awkwardly placed on the heels of MILITARY OPTION when shifting to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. From shortly after entering the Straight until passing the 100 Metres, CHINOOK was badly held up for a run and then near the 50 Metres was crowded for room when obtaining a run between MUTUAL GAIN and SOLAR POWER which shifted in. In this incident, CHINOOK was struck across the nose by the whip of S Dye (SOLAR POWER). Approaching the 250 Metes, MILITARY OPTION, which had been held up for clear running, was shifted to the outside of ONLY YOU. In doing so, MILITARY OPTION and TRIUMPH came together on a number of occasions as MILITARY OPTION attempted to obtain clear running between ONLY YOU and that horse. MILITARY OPTION was then steadied near the 100 Metres when unable to obtain clear running. Close to the line, MILITARY OPTION was awkwardly placed near the heels of TRIUMPH. Because of this, MILITARY OPTION was not ridden out to the end of the race. For the major part of the race, ONLY YOU travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice C K Tong (SIXTY SECONDS) said he was intent on racing away from the rail as the horse always performs best when ridden in this manner. He said despite having the opportunity to shift to the rail in the early and middle stages he decided against doing so as he did not believe this would suit his horse. He said despite TOY QUEST improving to his inside at the 600 Metres, he rode SIXTY SECONDS to suit the best interest of his horse. S Dye explained from a gate towards the middle he was asked to go forward and have SOLAR POWER travel where it was comfortable. He said he anticipated this would be slightly in front of midfield. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion it became apparent to him that he would be left racing three wide without cover, he therefore allowed SOLAR POWER to stride forward near the 1300 Metres and cross to race outside MUTUAL GAIN. B Prebble (TREASURE RAIDERS) said the horse at its last race performed strongly after being slow to begin and racing well back. He said on that occasion the tempo of the race meant that TREASURE RAIDERS over-raced slightly. He said tonight because of that performance the intention was again to ride TREASURE RAIDERS from a wide barrier quietly in an endeavour to have the horse close the race off in a similar fashion. He said because tonight's race was run at a slow tempo, TREASURE RAIDERS proved difficult to control and because of this its run ended after the 200 Metres. He said in future he believes the most important factor to TREASURE RAIDERS performing well is to have the horse properly relaxed regardless of where it is positioned in the field. VITAL PATROL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VITAL PATROL after the race did not show any significant findings. MILITARY OPTION, TOY QUEST and TRIUMPH were sent for sampling.
