Racing Incident Report
The explanation tendered by G Mossé (HAPPY SUNDAY) for being late into the Parade Ring was accepted. CHAMPION LAD began awkwardly, then was taken across behind runners. DR CANDY began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LEADER. A Delpech (STAR OF FAME) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LEADER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running, be steadied, initially shift in, causing crowding on its inside to ISLAND SUNRISE which was checked, then shift out and cause crowding to PROGRESSING TIMES which lost its rightful running and was checked severely. In this incident, inconvenience was caused to SPICY HOT and CHAMPION LAD which were following PROGRESSING TIMES. A Delpech was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 7 December 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 29 November 2006. In addition, A Delpech was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Passing the 600 Metres, SMART FELLOW, which was proving difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MASTER YING, shifted out and bumped DR CANDY. Near the 300 Metres, SMART FELLOW was shifted out abruptly when disappointed for running between MASTER YING and DR CANDY. Inside the final 200 Metres, DR CANDY hung in. In the Straight, SPICY HOT hung out. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CHEEKY LAD, D Whyte said the horse had trialed at Happy Valley on 18 November 2006 and in his opinion it closed that trial off satisfactorily. He said subsequently the horse's track work had been good. He said today CHEEKY LAD travelled well in the early stages, received a bump at the 800 Metres, however, again travelled satisfactorily after regaining its balance. He said on straightening he placed CHEEKY LAD under pressure, however, the horse failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. PROGRESSING TIMES and CHEEKY LAD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PROGRESSING TIMES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a laceration to the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PROGRESSING TIMES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CHEEKY LAD after the race did not show any significant findings. SMART FELLOW and DR CANDY were sent for sampling.
