Racing Incident Report
At declaration time, D Oliver was declared as the rider of both SHINING DRAGON and CHAMPION LAD. It was established that D Oliver had a firm commitment to ride CHAMPION LAD. As such, the Stewards permitted O Doleuze to be substituted as the rider of SHINING DRAGON. Mr C W Chang, trainer of SHINING DRAGON, was fined $2,000 for this error. CHAMPION LAD was slow to begin. AMAZING CHOICE began awkwardly and got its head up. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, SHINING DRAGON was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DANEMAN HILL. In the early and middle stages, WISDOM EXPRESS travelled wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT became unbalanced and brushed the running rail when awkwardly placed inside SHINING DRAGON. On straightening, SHINING DRAGON was bumped and hampered by BUDDIES SPIRIT (D Nikolic) which initially was shifting out in an endeavour to find clear running, then shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of DANEMAN HILL which commenced to give ground. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed no action ought be taken, however, D Nikolic was reprimanded and told he would be expected to exercise greater care. After the 200 Metres, SHINING DRAGON got its head on the side and hung in. Over about the last 100 Metres, HONOUR SUPREME had difficulty obtaining clear running. Approaching the winning post, MULTO EXPRESSO was checked and CHAMPION LAD crowded for room between SERIOUS PLAY which shifted out slightly and AMAZING CHOICE (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, Apprentice Chui was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Throughout the race, MULTO EXPRESSO travelled wide and without cover. MULTO EXPRESSO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MULTO EXPRESSO after the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY SUNDAY, WINDICATOR and BUDDIES SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
