Racing Incident Report
JOYFUL UNION began awkwardly and blundered. With the intention of being ridden quietly from the outside barrier, JOY AND TREASURE was taken across behind runners at the start. DRAGON INN was slow to muster speed, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when being steadied away from the heels of LUCKY CORDELIA. At the 1300 Metres, DRAGON INN, which was racing ungenerously, got its head up and shifted out abruptly. This caused inconvenience to JOY AND TREASURE. Also at the 1300 Metres, GLOBE RIVER became unbalanced when bumped by HONG KONG GEM. Near the 900 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA became unbalanced when bumped by FRAMES DEPOT. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, STAR PRODIGY was carried wider by JOYFUL UNION which at this time was itself carried wider by GREEN IDEAL which shifted to the outside of OPTIC KING to go forward. Shortly after straightening, GLOBE RIVER was steadied and shifted to the outside of FRAMES DEPOT into clear running. In the Straight, GREEN IDEAL hung in. Because of this, H K Yim, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount near the 200 Metres when it shifted ground, causing crowding to OPTIC KING. Near the 100 Metres, STAR PRODIGY became unbalanced and shifted out after being bumped by TOUCH DOWN which at this time shifted to the outside of STEP FORWARD into clear running. Over the concluding stages, GLOBE RIVER hung in. For the major part of the race, FRAMES DEPOT raced wide and without cover. O Doleuze (LUCKY CORDELIA) was unable to offer an explanation for the performance of the horse. He said at no stage of tonight's race did LUCKY CORDELIA travel comfortably. He said he was under pressure to hold its position in the middle stages and when placed under pressure in the Straight did not respond. LUCKY CORDELIA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, LUCKY CORDELIA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. STEP FORWARD, HONG KONG GEM and GREEN IDEAL were sent for sampling.
