Racing Incident Report
DESERT STRIKE was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore suspensory ligament). Before being allowed to race again, DESERT STRIKE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DANRIVA and WONG'S FAVOURITE were slow to begin. EVERGREEN began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of MUTUAL GAIN. After the 1000 Metres, HARRY HARRY was steadied away from the heels of TIRAMISU. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CARRY GOOD NEWS was steadied away from the heels of HARRY HARRY which was crowded for room inside MUTUAL GAIN which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from GLORIOUS RHYTHM. On straightening, DANRIVA was steadied away from the heels of VINCERE. At the 250 Metres, CARRY GOOD NEWS was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between HARRY HARRY and TIRAMISU. Approaching the 200 Metres, HARRY HARRY was crowded for room between GLORIOUS RHYTHM and TIRAMISU which momentarily shifted out. K S Yu (HARRY HARRY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of GLORIOUS RHYTHM, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. K S Yu was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 1 February 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 20 January 2007. When questioned, Apprentice C W Wong (MUTUAL GAIN) said he had been instructed to obtain a position on the fence and if the pace was slow it was acceptable for him to lead. He said in the early stages he crossed to race on the fence, after passing the winning post on the first occasion he was crossed by ALWAYS ZIETEN, so he elected to obtain a trailing position behind that horse. He said he maintained his position on the fence until after entering the Back Straight. He said when EVERGREEN and WONG'S FAVOURITE commenced to improve on his outside, he then shifted to the one off position. He said when he did this TIRAMISU commenced to improve on his inside and because of this as EVERGREEN went forward of his mount, he was not able to shift back to the fence without causing interference to that horse. He said MUTUAL GAIN was reluctant to hold its position making the turn after the 800 Metres and on straightening had dropped to a rearward position. He said in the Straight when being ridden out MUTUAL GAIN failed to respond. Apprentice Wong was told his riding in the middle stages had come under notice and he should ensure where possible he rides his mounts in a manner which is not open to query. VINCERE and GLORIOUS RHYTHM were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VINCERE and GLORIOUS RHYTHM after the race did not show any significant findings. CARRY GOOD NEWS and ALWAYS ZIETEN were sent for sampling.
