Racing Incident Report

BEAR MACHO was withdrawn on 15.1.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen right fore fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FAIR WIN. Before being allowed to race again, BEAR MACHO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst in the holding stalls, MAGIC CHARIOT lost the left front plate. This plate was refitted. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. ENGINEERING WONDER was slow to begin. MAGIC CHARIOT was slow to begin, then lost further ground when awkwardly placed between WHIPLASH and DILIGENT which was carried out by FLYING SPRINTER. LUCKY STRAVINSKY made the first turn awkwardly. Throughout the race, BULLDOZER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M Nunes (DILIGENT) said when he had ridden the horse at its most recent start it had failed to finish the race off when being ridden in forward position. He said because of this tonight he had been instructed to ride DILIGENT around midfield. He said after beginning well he initially shifted to a position behind FLYING SPRINTER on the rail, then after making the turn at the 1000 Metres when it became apparent to him that TIGER PRAWN was endeavouring to shift to a position behind FLYING SPRINTER, he elected to steady his mount which allowed that horse to shift in. He said he believed if he had ridden his mount along to maintain his position behind FLYING SPRINTER at this time, it would have been contrary to his instructions. He said DILIGENT then travelled comfortably in the midfield position until straightening where the horse closed the race off significantly better than it did when ridden in a more forward position last start. TIGER PRAWN and DILIGENT were sent for sampling. Following the race, A Delpech (MAGIC CHARIOT) reported the horse raced greenly throughout and near the 1000 Metres became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of DILIGENT.
