Racing Incident Report
LIGHTNING SPEED was withdrawn on 6.2.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CARE FREE MIDAS (O Doleuze). LOLLIPOP was also withdrawn on 6.2.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality). Before being allowed to race again, LIGHTNING SPEED and LOLLIPOP will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the gates opened, CHAMPION PIONEER put its head down, was slow to begin and then shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between CARE FREE MIDAS and SINGING DINERS. On jumping, ISLAND SPEED knuckled. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, OBVIOUSLY hung out. As a consequence, STAR OF FAME was carried wider. Also making the turn at the 1000 Metres, ISLAND SPEED hung out which caused some inconvenience to GANBARIA. KIMBERLEY MINES hung out making the turn at the 1000 Metres. At the 800 Metres, CARE FREE MIDAS became unbalanced and lost ground when bumped by KIMBERLEY MINES which at this time was bumped and crowded for room inside GANBARIA which when being shifted to a position without cover got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Over the final 600 Metres, CHAMPION PIONEER hung out badly, shifted wider on the track and could not be ridden out. The performance of CHAMPION PIONEER was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, CHAMPION PIONEER will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 200 Metres, MOSHI MOSHI, which was commencing to close the race off, was steadied and shifted to the outside of GANBARIA which at this time was giving ground. When questioned regarding the poor performance of STAR OF FAME, Apprentice K T Yeung said the horse travelled in a forward position without cover tonight. He said previously when STAR OF FAME has performed best it has had cover. He said tonight the race was run at a quick tempo and STAR OF FAME was not able to quicken after straightening. STAR OF FAME was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. CHAMPION PIONEER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STAR OF FAME and CHAMPION PIONEER after the race did not show any significant findings. SINGING DINERS and HURRAY HURRAY were sent for sampling.
