Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, SIMPLY JOY became very fractious. Before being allowed to race again, SIMPLY JOY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. MAKE A MINT began awkwardly, became unbalanced and as a consequence lost ground. SIMPLY JOY was slow to begin, then lost further ground when checked to avoid the heels of CHATER DE LAGO which shifted in after bumping with CIRCUIT HERO. Shortly after the start, KING CREOLE was steadied when crowded for room between DAYLIGHT EXPRESS which shifted in and SWEET BABY which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. As a result of SWEET BABY beginning awkwardly, D Nikolic lost the use of his right stirrup and became unbalanced. D Nikolic regained the use of this stirrup after a short distance. After the 1000 Metres, DAYLIGHT EXPRESS, which had been ridden along to shift in and obtain a position with cover, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ACCELERATOR. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ACCELERATOR hung out. Near the 700 Metres, GREAT HERO was reluctant to hold its position when racing tight inside DAYLIGHT EXPRESS. Near the 600 Metres, MAKE A MINT was steadied away from the heels of CHATER DE LAGO. At the 500 Metres, MAKE A MINT, which was being shifted to the outside of CHATER DE LAGO, got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. In the Straight, GREAT HERO got its head on the side and was inclined to hang out. Just prior to the winning post, CHATER DE LAGO became unbalanced when endeavouring to improve into a narrow run between SWEET BABY and GREAT HERO. Throughout the race, CIRCUIT HERO travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (DAYLIGHT EXPRESS) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said in the early stages he had to make some use of DAYLIGHT EXPRESS to obtain a forward position, however, the horse enjoyed a good run throughout, but did not quicken after straightening. He said he had ridden DAYLIGHT EXPRESS in one piece of slow work leading into today's race and this work in his opinion was satisfactory. DAYLIGHT EXPRESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DAYLIGHT EXPRESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. COUNTRY MAGIC, TREASURABLE and CIRCUIT HERO were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SIMPLY JOY had blood present at its left nostril. The Veterinary Officer said an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and as such was not deemed to have bled.
