Racing Incident Report

With the intention of being ridden with cover, on jumping KAISER'S CHOIX from a wide barrier was taken across behind runners. OKEYDOKEY was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between FLYING KENNY sand CASH IN which shifted in after being bumped by GOOD VIEW SUCCESS which shifted ground on jumping. In this incident, CASH IN became badly unbalanced and lost ground. NAPA began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HIGHWAY PATROL. After the 1100 Metres, OKEYDOKEY was checked when crowded for room inside CASH IN which got its head on the side and shifted in away from GOOD VIEW SUCCESS despite the efforts of its rider. No action was taken. At the 600 Metres, SILLY BOY was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GANBARIA which at this time shifted in slightly. Also at the 600 Metres, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS was steadied when crowded for room between FLYING KENNY and KAISER'S CHOIX. From making the Home Turn until after passing the winning post, FLYING KENNY was held up and unable to obtain clear running. At the 250 Metres, CASH IN, which was commencing to close the race off, was steadied and shifted out to go forward. E Saint-Martin (GANBARIA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FLYING KENNY, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of KEEN SOUL which as a result was checked. E Saint-Martin was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 21 May 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 12 May 2007. In addition, E Saint-Martin was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. In the Home Straight, SILLY BOY hung in and proved difficult to ride. For the major part of the race, GANBARIA travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight hung in. E Saint-Martin explained the horse began well and WINE WIN which in the past has shown good gate speed was hard ridden from his outside to go forward in an endeavour to lead. He said he therefore allowed WINE WIN to cross him in the hope of being able to obtain a position with cover behind the lead. He said however GANBARIA was not able to obtain a position with cover as hoped. F Coetzee (KAISER'S CHOIX) explained when he had ridden the horse previously, he had to make considerable use of it in the early stages to obtain a forward position. He said therefore today from a wide barrier it was decided to ride the horse with cover. He said he initially got into a two wide position, however, after entering the Back Straight he became concerned that there was a gap developing in front of the two horses which he was following, he therefore elected to shift out to be three wide to avoid being too far back in the race. He said KAISER'S CHOIX travelled only fairly, but in his opinion was not suited by the manner in which the race was run and as a consequence failed to close the race off. KAISER'S CHOIX and NAPA were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KAISER'S CHOIX after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, NAPA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NAPA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WINE WIN and DR CANDY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported OKEYDOKEY had lost its left front plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 May 2007)
NAPA, which performed poorly, was examined by Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. NAPA was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the right front leg with an infected bumper abrasion. As previously advised, NAPA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
