Racing Incident Report
TIME SUPREME stood flat-footed at the start and lost a considerable amount of ground, then for the major part of the race hung out. NATURAL NINE began awkwardly. On jumping, BULLISH CASH shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of LIBERAL'S CHOICE. After the 1400 Metres, NATURAL NINE shifted out to improve around VERY FIT and raced without cover until near the 800 Metres. At the 1000 Metres, BULLISH CASH shifted out away from the heels of VERY FIT and was then for some distance awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse and tight inside TIME SUPREME. Prior to straightening, BULLISH CASH was steadied and shifted to the outside of TIME SUPREME. At the 400 Metres, ELECTRONICS SPUR was steadied and shifted out in an endeavour to find clear running. When questioned, A Delpech (NORTHERNER) explained he had been instructed to have his mount travel comfortably and not to ride it along to obtain a position as in the past the horse has shown it can over-race. He said in addition he had been told the horse is best suited finishing its races off wider on the track. He said because of these instructions despite there being an opportunity for him to improve his position on the inside of BULLISH CASH after entering the Back Straight, he did not do so as he felt NORTHERNER would then be awkwardly positioned if it commenced to over-race as he had been advised in his instructions. He said after the 1000 Metres the tempo of the race steadied and the field bunched. He added after the 600 Metres he then shifted NORTHERNER to the outside, however, because of the slow tempo the horse failed to finish the race off as anticipated. C K Tong (NOBLE HEART) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 4th or 5th position as it had been when it last raced over the same course and distance. He said accordingly he allowed NOBLE HEART to travel forward in the early stages to ensure it obtained a favourable position. He said when no other runners improved around his outside in a slowly run race, he continued to race outside the lead. He said NOBLE HEART proved difficult to settle and resisted his attempts to come back and obtain a position with cover after the 600 Metres. GO JOHNNY GO and NATURAL NINE were sent for sampling.
