Racing Incident Report
IMPERIAL APPLAUSE bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. HERE WE GO was crowded for room at the start between ALPHA MAIL which began awkwardly and shifted out and CHEERFUL MASTER which was taken in by GREAT GUY. KINDACROSS began awkwardly, resulting in Apprentice H W Lai becoming badly unbalanced in the saddle. Near the 1300 Metres, CHEERFUL MASTER was steadied away from the heels of EGYPTIAN RA which shifted in. HERE WE GO, which was following CHEERFUL MASTER, was inconvenienced in consequence. Approaching the 1100 Metres, STRONG GAIN hung in across the heels of HERE WE GO and was severely checked. Passing the 600 Metres, DON FELIPE became unbalanced when close to the heels of GREAT GUY. When questioned, F Coetzee stated as ALPHA MAIL had been somewhat tardy to begin in its races in Hong Kong, he made a purpose of ensuring the horse began well. He stated he was able to obtain the position he wanted with ALPHA MAIL, however, at the 600 Metres he became concerned as ALPHA MAIL was not striding out as he felt it should. He stated he placed the horse under pressure from this point, however, ALPHA MAIL did not respond to his riding thereafter. F Coetzee went on to add in his opinion today's track condition was the reason for the horse's disappointing performance. EGYPTIAN RA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. ALPHA MAIL and STRONG GAIN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, EGYPTIAN RA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of ALPHA MAIL and STRONG GAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. GREAT GUY and DON FELIPE were sent for sampling.
