Racing Incident Report
MR FLOODLIGHT was slow to begin. MACAROON bounded in the air at the start. CHEEKY LAD began awkwardly and was then crowded for room between DIAMOND FLYER and HAPPY GO LAGO, both of which shifted ground. In the early and middle stages, GALLANT WIN proved difficult to settle. Making the Home Turn, FAST TRACK hung out. Near the 300 Metres, DIAMOND FLYER was hampered and steadied away from the heels of FANTASTIC WIN (Apprentice H W Lai) which at this time shifted towards the outside of TRIUMPH when not properly clear. Apprentice Lai stopped riding and straightened his mount, therefore no action was taken. HAPPY GO LAGO, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Throughout the race, DIAMOND FLYER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Straight, Apprentice H W Lai said there were a number of runners in front of him and he felt after the 400 Metres if he shifted to the outside of TRIUMPH, he would be able to carry DIAMOND FLYER wider which would enable him to obtain clear running. He said however when he commenced to shift ground, he was not clear of DIAMOND FLYER and then became awkwardly placed on the heels of TRIUMPH. He said after this he shifted FANTASTIC WIN back to the inside of TRIUMPH into clear running and then was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAST TRACK which was giving ground. He said after the 200 Metres he obtained clear running and FANTASTIC WIN finished the race off strongly. After viewing the official videos of the race, Apprentice Lai conceded in hindsight there was an opportunity for him in the early part of the Straight to improve his position behind DEERFIELD and FAST TRACK rather than shifting his mount out and to have done so would have been more advantageous. In the circumstances, Apprentice Lai was reprimanded and told to ensure he avails himself of opportunities to improve his position particularly at vital stages of the race. WIN FOR ALL, FAST TRACK and HAPPY GO LAGO were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WIN FOR ALL and FAST TRACK after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, HAPPY GO LAGO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. CHEEKY LAD, DEERFIELD and LUCKY DANSKE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported FANTASTIC WIN had lost its left hind plate.
