Racing Incident Report

DELIGHTFUL WIN was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between DIAMOND FLYER and MYTHIC STEED which got its head on the side and shifted in. On jumping, KAISER'S PRIZE bumped with LEADER and lost ground. At the 300 Metres, LEADER was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between MULTI KING and PEARL OF INDIA. After the 300 Metres, KAISER'S PRIZE became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND FLYER which when giving ground shifted in. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that an incident had occurred which cast doubt on whether MULTI KING should be declared the second placegetter of the race. F Coetzee, the rider of PEARL OF INDIA, 3rd placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against MULTI KING (Apprentice K L Chui) being declared the 2nd placegetter alleging interference to his mount over the final 250 Metres. The Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that MULTI KING shifted out on 4 occasions, firstly near the 300 Metres, secondly at the 200 Metres, thirdly at the 150 Metres and then again at the 100 Metres and on each occasion made contact with PEARL OF INDIA, causing that horse to be bumped and become unbalanced. The Stewards formed the opinion that, bearing in mind the short head margin between the two horses at the finish of the race, PEARL OF INDIA would have finished in front of MULTI KING had the interference which did take place not occurred. Therefore the protest/objection was sustained and accordingly the amended placings became No. 14 LEADER 1st, No. 5 PEARL OF INDIA 2nd, No. 10 MULTI KING 3rd, and No. 9 MR FLOODLIGHT 4th. Subsequently Apprentice Chui was told whilst the Stewards accepted his horse was hanging out, he should do his utmost to prevent it shifting ground in similar circumstances. Just prior to the winning post, Apprentice K L Chui dropped his whip. For the major part of the race, MULTI KING hung out. D Whyte (CHINA HERO) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the intention had been to travel outside the lead if possible, however, CHINA HERO did not show the sufficient speed to obtain that position and as a consequence was left racing wide and without cover. He said CHINA HERO did not respond to his riding in the Straight. CHINA HERO was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of CHINA HERO after the race did not show any significant findings. STEEL NERVES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, STEEL NERVES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. LEADER and PEARL OF INDIA were sent for sampling. Following the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SUPER CEE JAY and SEVENS HEAVEN at the request of their respective trainers. The Veterinary Officer said these examinations showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the trachea of SUPER CEE JAY and a substantial amount of blood in the trachea of SEVENS HEAVEN. Before being allowed to race again, SEVENS HEAVEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
