Racing Incident Report

NOBLE SILENCE was slow to begin. WISE LOVER began awkwardly and lost ground. At the 900 Metres, UNIQUE SPEED, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of OCEAN TRANQUIL. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, BRAVE KNIGHT was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of WISE LOVER which at this time became unbalanced and shifted in after being bumped by UNIQUE SPEED. After the 800 Metres, WIN AGAIN was checked to avoid the heels of BUCCANEER which at this time was steadied away from the heels of BODACIOUS. In the middle stages, UNIQUE SPEED hung out. In the early part of the Straight, BUCCANEER had difficulty obtaining clear running between MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP and THUNDER DANCING. At the 100 Metres, WISE LOVER was steadied when crowded for room between OCEAN TRANQUIL and BUCCANEER, both of which shifted ground. Throughout the race, THE WITCH'S BROOM and SUPER SNIPPETS travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice C W Wong (BRAVE KNIGHT) explained the horse when racing over 1200 Metres is usually ridden in a position around midfield. He said as the horse has shown it has difficulty running a strong 1400 Metres, he was today instructed to ride the horse in a more rearward position and to ensure it was properly settled. Mr C H Yip, trainer of BRAVE KNIGHT, confirmed the instructions issued to Apprentice Wong and said it was hoped riding BRAVE KNIGHT this way would enable the horse to close the race off strongly. D Nikolic (MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP) said the intention had been to ride the horse in about midfield in what was anticipated to be a slowly run race. He said today when racing in blinkers for the first time MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP became very stirred up during the preliminary and behind the barriers. He said on jumping he endeavoured to bring MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP back to obtain a position with cover, however, the horse immediately commenced to over-race and get its head up. He said when MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP would not relax, he decided at the 1000 Metres to allow the horse to go forward and cross to race outside the leader to avoid travelling wide. He said however MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP continued to race keenly and as a consequence did not finish the race off and was most disappointing. He said following the race he advised Mr A Lee, trainer of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP, that in his opinion the horse would be best suited with blinkers removed at this stage of its career. MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. AMAZING ME and BRAVE KNIGHT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP, AMAZING ME and BRAVE KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. WIN AGAIN and BODACIOUS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 July 2007)
AMAZING ME, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. AMAZING ME was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff and restricted action and also to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING ME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
