Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the barriers, it was noted DIAMOND SUPREME had shifted its right front plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CENTURY SUPER STAR began awkwardly, then was taken across behind runners. TELECOM EMPEROR was slow to begin. In the Straight, NOT QUITE PERFECT hung in, shortly after straightening shifted ground and bumped BATURO. When questioned, G Mossé (DIAMOND SUPREME), which was stepping in distance to 1200 Metres tonight, said the intention had been to ride the horse where it was comfortable in the hope that it would close the race off in a similar manner to its last start. He said DIAMOND SUPREME began well and he travelled in a midfield position after receiving interference making the first turn. He said shortly after this he endeavoured to have DIAMOND SUPREME make some ground, however, DEERFIELD, which had been racing forward of him on his outside, commenced to shift in. He said to have maintained a position on the inside of DEERFIELD would have required him in his opinion to make use of DIAMOND SUPREME. He said in the Straight DIAMOND SUPREME failed to finish the race off as expected and in his opinion was disappointing. When questioned, Apprentice H W Lai (MY PRIDE) said it was anticipated the race would be run at a good tempo. He said in the early stages he went forward and crossed to race outside GANBARIA, however, approaching the turn at the 1000 Metres he noted a number of runners to his inside were being ridden along to go forward. He said therefore making the turn at the 1000 Metres he endeavoured to steady MY PRIDE to ensure the horse was not caught in a speed battle and obtained a position with cover. He said when he did this MY PRIDE got its head up, commenced to hang out and lost further ground than he had intended. When MY PRIDE lost ground making the turn at the 1000 Metres, BRILLIANT TREASURE and DIAMOND SUPREME, which were following, were checked in consequence. ANIMATION, which was following these runners, was steadied in consequence. MY PRIDE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MY PRIDE after the race did not show any significant findings. DIAMOND SUPREME, CENTURY SUPER STAR and GANBARIA were sent for sampling.
