Racing Incident Report

CHINA WIN and KILDARE were slow to begin. On jumping, BRILLIANT FLASH began awkwardly and stumbled. Also on jumping, ISTIDE shifted out, bumped with NEW CHAPTER and then stumbled. After the 1200 Metres, CHINA WIN got its head on the side, shifted in away from the heels of DR POSSI and bumped with TAN TAT BABY. SUPER CHARGE, which was following CHINA WIN, got its head up when being steadied in consequence. Near the 1000 Metres, HAPPY GO LUCKY was bumped by CHINA WIN which shifted out after being bumped by TAN TAT BABY. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, KINGSTON MARBLE, which was travelling keenly, was checked severely to avoid the heels of KILDARE which after reaching the lead raced ungenerously, resulting in the tempo being steadied. In the circumstances, no action was taken. ISTIDE, which was following, was steadied in consequence. At the 900 Metres, ESPERANZA, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of ISTIDE. From on straightening until the 300 Metres, BEAUTY PLUS was held up and unable to obtain clear running, at the 300 Metres was steadied and shifted to the inside of ESPERANZA to go forward, then over the final 200 Metres was unable to obtain clear running between NEW CHAPTER and ENCHANTED. As a consequence, BEAUTY PLUS was not tested. For the major part of the race, DR POSSI travelled wide and without cover. D Beadman (SUPER CHARGE) said he had secured the riding engagement following G Mossé becoming indisposed after Race 1. He said he was instructed by Mr C C Chan, assistant trainer to Mr A Lee, to ride the horse where it was comfortable with cover. He said he expressed to Mr Chan the opinion that from a wide barrier it might be difficult for SUPER CHARGE to obtain a position with cover. He said SUPER CHARGE began fairly, he immediately looked to obtain a position with cover racing outside TAN TAT BABY. He said as he commenced to shift towards this position, CHINA WIN had been hard ridden to improve on his inside. He said because of this he elected to steady SUPER CHARGE and shift back to a position with cover to ensure he was not left racing wide. He said as a consequence SUPER CHARGE travelled further back than is usual, however, he was of the belief he would have been required to make too much use of the horse in a solidly run race to go forward and avoid being caught wide. Mr Chan confirmed the riding instructions and said it had been anticipated SUPER CHARGE would travel slightly forward of midfield if possible. When questioned regarding her riding in the Home Straight, E Wilson (BRILLIANT FLASH) explained in her opinion today’s pattern seemed to favour horses travelling towards the inside. She said BRILLIANT FLASH got back to a rearward position as anticipated. She said on entering the Straight when BEAUTY PLUS shifted out to go forward, she remained racing towards the inside in the hope that clear running would present itself. She said she commenced to ride along hands and heels and BRILLIANT FLASH responded fairly to improve inside the heels of BEAUTY PLUS. She said after the 300 Metres she momentarily steadied away from the heels of BEAUTY PLUS when that runner commenced to shift back in to find clear running. She said after this BRILLIANT FLASH did not obtain clear running for the remainder of the race and because of this was not tested. BRILLIANT FLASH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BRILLIANT FLASH after the race did not show any significant findings. TAN TAT BABY and CHINA WIN were sent for sampling. Following the running of this race, it was reported G Boss (NEW CHAPTER) had returned to the scale 2 lbs over his declared weight. Having considered the circumstances of this case, G Boss was fined $3,000 [Rule 113(3)].
