Racing Incident Report

MEDALLION began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. CONQUEROR was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, NEWSWIRE TOO was taken back to a position with cover in the early stages. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MEDALLION was steadied when awkwardly placed between CLASSIC HORSE and CONQUEROR which shifted out slightly when being steadied away from the heels of FIRST KNIGHT. No action was taken. After the 700 Metres, CLASSIC REUNION was steadied away from the heels of ZEPHYRUS. In the early part of the Straight, FIRST KNIGHT had some difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 300 Metres, CONQUEROR, which was commencing to close the race off, was steadied away from the heels of FIRST KNIGHT which shifted in to go forward. In the Straight, CLASSIC HORSE hung in. When questioned, D Whyte (BE MY SONG) explained the intention had been to lead. He said from a wide barrier BE MY SONG began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. He said he then allowed BE MY SONG to gradually improve its position to race in front of midfield without riding along to do so bearing in mind that the horse was carrying top weight. He said BE MY SONG was left racing wide and without cover, however, he felt to have gone further forward to clear runners on his inside would have required him to make too much use of the horse. He said in his opinion despite travelling wide throughout BE MY SONG was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding after straightening. O Doleuze (RELY ON ME) explained his mount travelled comfortably in the run and in the early part of the Straight responded strongly to his riding. He said after the 200 Metres RELY ON ME commenced to give ground and then at the 150 Metres became unbalanced in its action. PEARL HALO was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, PEARL HALO was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had bled from both nostrils. BE MY SONG and RELY ON ME were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BE MY SONG and RELY ON ME after the race did not show any significant findings. CRYSTAL and KING OF FISH were sent for sampling.
