Racing Incident Report
LEADER was withdrawn on 15.5.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SIMPLY THE BEST. As previously advised, LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. FREEBIRD was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever). Before being allowed to race again, FREEBIRD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst being saddled, CENAMIRA shifted its right front plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. FILEBO and TELECOM TYCOON were slow to begin. PACIFIC ALLIANCE began awkwardly. HURRICANE WAY and NOBLE TWINS bumped at the start. A short distance later, HURRICANE WAY was crowded for room between NOBLE TWINS and SIMPLY THE BEST which shifted out. FAST WINNER and NOBLE ZOOM also bumped at the start due to both horses shifting out. From the outside barrier, SHOW BRAVELY was taken across behind runners after the start. After being ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, HURRICANE WAY was checked away from the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST passing the 1500 Metres. Near the 1300 Metres, FILEBO was checked away from the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST which shifted in marginally. When FILEBO checked, TELECOM TYCOON, which was following FILEBO, was hampered in consequence. No action was taken. In the middle stages, HURRICANE WAY proved difficult to settle and passing the 1100 Metres was steadied away from the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST and shifted out, resulting in FAST WINNER being hampered. Near the 300 Metres, NOBLE TWINS was steadied when crowded for room between SIMPLY THE BEST and PACIFIC ALLIANCE. Also near the 300 Metres, SUPER shifted wider on the track. When questioned regarding the improved performance of BARRACUDA, Trainer A Lee said at its most recent start over 2200 Metres he believed the horse had failed to run out the distance. He said for this reason he freshened BARRACUDA up and dropped the horse back in distance to the 1600 Metres of today’s race. He said he believed the improved performance could be attributed to the fact that BARRACUDA was able to reach the lead without too much use being made of in the early stages and once having reached the lead the horse was then allowed to dictate the tempo of the race. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHINESE BOY BOY, Y T Cheng said it was decided if the horse began well then it should be ridden in a more forward position today as it appeared as though the track was favouring horses that were racing towards the lead. He said he was also advised if at all possible he should endeavour to obtain cover. He said CHINESE BOY BOY began well, he immediately travelled into a forward position, however, due to the circumstances of the race he was not able to obtain cover, he therefore allowed his mount to improve its position to be racing outside the lead. He said CHINESE BOY BOY travelled comfortably until the 600 Metres, however, from this point onwards did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing. CHINESE BOY BOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHINESE BOY BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER and BARRACUDA were sent for sampling.
